Our Staff Philosophy
September 9, 2010
We have provided care in assisted living and skilled nursing communities for more than 30 years and our success rests on choosing staff members who are compassionate, communicative and comfortable with our concept of a "community of caring." Each person who works at The Terraces, from the Executive Director to our many caregivers, has made a long-term commitment. The average length of employment at The Terraces is many times greater than at our competitors. We believe in growing our own professionals and whenever possible promote from within. We hire with teamwork in mind.
Professional development is important to us. We provide ongoing training, both internally and with outside consultants, and encourage employees to take additional courses that will improve their skills and enhance their careers. When we introduce innovative programs, we allocate time and resources to get staff members up to speed. We emphasize with our staff the importance of being good communicators - both active and passive - so they can better and more readily understand the needs of our residents.
We want our staff to know the residents well, to understand their strengths, to be vigilant of their weakness and to monitor each individual's progress to assure the highest level of care. If we see any indication of change - a slight limp or a touch of slurred speech - we convey that information to Health Services Department and the Director of Health Services or the Executive Director checks in with the resident. The result is a non-intrusive, yet beneficial vigilance that has the health, well-being and independence at our residents at its heart.
