The reason we place so much importance on community here at The Terraces is that the elements of community building — forming friendships, establishing meaningful connections with other people and participating in a rich social life — are key ingredients to enjoying a mentally healthy life and overcoming the depressionÊand lethargy that can accompany aging.

Nourishing an engaging community is our goal and we've learned that one of the best ways to do that is to let our residents be our guides. We are continually adjusting a equation that takes into account their assisted living needs, their desire for independence and our responsibilities under the state Title 22 license that governs us to arrive at a program for the community that is supportive and fulfilling today, but also is continually evolving with our residents.

In this process, we encourage discussion by, interaction with and the involvement of residents. We take each of their requests seriously and attempt to implement those that benefit and are of relevance to the whole community while finding means to also fulfill specific individual needs.
